Flagging off the SunPedal Ride
On 25th May 2019, the team kicked off the SunPedal journey from Bengaluru, after a late night of adding finishing touches to the tuk-tuk.
The ride flagged off from near Vidhan Soudha, with the summer sun fully ablaze. The ceremony was flagged off by Mr. Basavaraju, the Secretary of Transport for Bangalore. Also present at the ceremony were Mr. Balaram from Avis group, Mr. Kumar from Jakson group, and the Chairman of VAIPL, Mr. Gupta.
Representatives from partner companies supporting the journey, came forward to speak about the importance of clean energy and how the ride supports endeavours towards a better future that they themselves envision.
The team started the ride from the flag-off venue and continued via Nelamangala and Tumkur to Sira, for the first 120 kilometres of their 6000. They were greeted by enthusiastic onlookers - cheering, intrigued and wanting selfies with the tuk-tuk.
Petrol Rickshaw drivers could be seen huddling around their E-counterpart and contemplating the opportunity cost in switching to such a vehicle. The team spent most of the day answering the common questions such as the cost, financing, associated long-term savings and availability of such vehicles in the market.
The day ended at the town of Sira, where the tuk-tuk was taken for recharge to an old Government compound, while the team retired to a guest house for the night.
